Keena is an 11-year-old Mohawk girl who lives in Kahnawà:ke, Quebec. Her brother Teho is a year younger than her, but when he had long hair everyone thought they were twins! In her room Keena shows us her soccer jersey and her ribbon dress. It’s her favourite colour – purple! – which is a special colour for the Mohawk people. Keena and her Mom bring us to the People’s Fire, which is a gathering place in the community. There they make corn soup, and Keena takes us on a nature walk, pointing out a few of the things that grow in the woods near where she lives. Keena has also been bitten by the acting bug. She takes us for a “behind-the-scenes” tour on the film set where she has a small role! Then it’s time for some fun with her best friend Lynnen. They go fishing, play badminton, cool down with a smoothie made with frozen berries and then show us their secret handshake. Keena’s special word is “Wakathahionni” which means “I am Wolf Clan” in the Kanien’kéha language.
